Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the plant monitor measure?

Our plant monitor measures soil moisture, light intensity, ambient temperature, and humidity. These four factors are the most critical to your plant’s well-being and growth. With these, we are then able to calculate your plant's vapor pressure deficit (VPD), which is a key indicator of plant health, as well as growing degree days (GDD), which is a key indicator of plant growth.

How do I set up my plant monitor?

Setting up your plant monitor is super easy! Simply download the app, and follow the instructions to connect your device to your Wi-Fi network. Once connected, you can link your plant monitor to your plant and start receiving real-time data and insights! More instructions.

Can I use this plant monitor with more than one plant?

You can use one plant monitor for multiple plants by linking and unlinking in the app. We do recommend 1 per plant as the device learns from your plant the longer you keep it with one.

Can I use the plant monitor outdoors?

Our monitor can be used outdoors given a good Wi-Fi connection and a protected area such as a porch, terrace, etc.

What types of soil/substrate does the plant monitor work with?

Our sensor works with most substrates. We do not recommend using it with substrates that have too many air pockets (ie. pebbles, leca, etc.) as it may affect the readings.

How long does the battery last?

The battery lasts up to 4 months and can be recharged with the included USB-C cable.

Do I need a membership to use this?

Absolutely NO membership is required to use our devices! We do offer a membership plan that comes with extra features such as device protection, unlimited plant identification and notifications to weather integration and the ability to request historical metrics for any timeframe - to list a few.

Will the app work on my phone and tablet?

Our app is available on both iOS and Android phones and tablets. You can download it from both the App Store and Google Play Store.

What makes the EarthOne plant monitor unique in plant care?

At EarthOne, we believe in empowering you with not just data, but insights for optimal plant health. While other plant monitoring tools provide basic information like soil moisture levels, they often leave you guessing about the actual needs of your plants. That's where the EarthOne plant monitor stands out.

Imagine you have a moisture level reading of 30%. What does it really mean for your specific plant? Should you water it immediately, or wait? Our plant monitor is designed to eliminate this guesswork. It doesn't just give you a number; it interprets this data based on a comprehensive understanding of your plant's unique needs, the current season, and even the time of day. It's not just about reading plant metrics; it's about understanding what these metrics mean for your plant's health at that very moment.

Our technology is built on a deep understanding of botany, integrating factors like soil type, plant species, environmental conditions, and seasonal variations. This means our app can provide tailored care recommendations, ensuring that each plant gets exactly what it needs to thrive, not just survive. With EarthOne, you're not just monitoring your plants; you're becoming a part of their ecosystem, understanding and nurturing them with precision and care.

Do you work with other smart home devices or assistants?

Yes, we work with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and over 900+ other brands through IFTTT. You can connect your plant monitor to your smart home devices and create custom applets to automate your home. Check out our IFTTT page.
